Athletic Director; Executive Director of Operations & Athletics; Head Track Coach

Coach Douglass has a very extensive athletic background that dates back to his days at Tempe High School where he was a letterman in both football and track.  He made the varsity track team as a freshman and varsity football as a sophomore.  He served as the starting running back and strong safety during his playing days at Tempe where they ultimately became State Champions in football his senior year. He led the team in rushing yards earning him All-City and All-State honors.  During his senior year he also realized success in track and field by becoming a state champion in both the 110 high hurdles and 300 meter hurdles along with taking 3rd in the 100 meter dash at the state meet. These feats ultimately earned him a football scholarship to NAU as a defensive back where he played all 4 years along with running track for NAU his sophomore and senior year.  On NAU's football field, he saw plenty of action.  He played as a True Freshman and started regularly throughout his collegiate football career.  As a senior he not only maintained a starting position the first 8 games, until receiving a season ending injury, but was also a defensive leader on the team. According to a independent player profile assessment, despite his size he was named as one of NAU's hardest hitters were he lead the secondary in tackles and defensive break-ups.  After graduating from NAU, he entered into the 1994 NFL draft.  Although Steven was not drafted, he ultimately signed as a free agent with a U.S. expansion Canadian Football team named the Shreveport Pirates which ultimately folded.  He played in all 3 pre-season games prior to being released.  His final football stint came in 1995 and 1996 where he played 2 seasons of Arena Football with the Arizona Rattlers and although being plagued with injuries, as a periodic starter and Defensive Specialist, he contributed both seasons toward making it to the semi-finals in the playoffs.  Since then Coach Douglass has transitioned from player to coach and semi-athlete where he still competes in the masters division of USA Track & Field.
