Soccer Skills Coach Coach Sparks is a former standout collegiate soccer player who enjoyed a celebrated career while on Eastern Washington University's (EWU) women’s soccer team. During her senior season, she realized a level of success that few athletes achieve, by becoming EWU’s most successful women’s soccer player in school history by setting the season records for number of goals (11), points (22) and game winners (3). She also tied Eastern Washington's career record for goals, at 14 during her three-year career since she redshirted as a freshman. Sparks was among the top 10 in the Big Sky Conference (BSC) in seven different categories, including best goals per game average of 0.65. Not only was her goals per game average the best in the league, but it also ranked 31st among all NCAA Division I players. She was second in the BSC in number of points scored (22), points per game (1.22) and total goals (11). She also earned All-BSC first-team honors and was selected as Big Sky Player of the Week twice that season. Additionally, she was also named to the Big Sky All-Academic team for the third time in her career. Her high school career set the stage for her future success. Sparks competed on the varsity soccer, basketball and track and field teams all four years at Kamiakin High School. Her senior year as a soccer player, she was named the Most Valuable Player of the Big 9 Conference and earned first team All-State accolades. She was also All-Big 9 as a junior. Sparks played club soccer for the Maple Valley Marauders. She helped KHS to a state title in track and field, both as a team and in the 4x200-meter relay. |
